A highly decorative antique Japanese wooden storage chest, dating from the Meiji period (circa 1870–1910). The chest is crafted from dark wood that shows signs of age, bearing a beautiful, authentic patina from use. It features elaborate, hand-forged iron fittings, including distinctive corner mounts, domed nail heads, side carrying rings, and a fine central fitting depicting a stylized *shishi* (guardian lion).
