Folk art Wedding Chest, anno 1852

A pine wedding chest from Central Europe, probably German, dated 1852. The terracotta red color scheme is typical of the style and is often seen in Swedish and German painted furniture and harks back to the classical period. The flowers adorning the chest are symbols of eternal life. Because these chests were also often used as seating, the paint on the lid has faded. There is minor damage to the left corner of the lid.
